5 New Years Travel Resolutions for 2016

It’s a new year full of promise and new travel destinations! Now it’s time to make your resolutions. We all do these things, but all of these tips are for the better and you know it, even if it is tough at first. Take the plunge and read below!

1. Don’t overpack.
You don’t need to pack eight evening gowns for a weekend trip. Check the weather before you go and pack accordingly. Limiting what you bring can cut down on baggage fees, and make for more comfortable travel.

2. Budget for your trip.
If you make traveling a top priority then your budgeting will fall right into place. This means maybe not going on needless shopping sprees anymore. Once you stop getting things you don’t need, you won’t want to go back to your old ways. Saving up for a big trip is totally worth it.

3. You’ll try and learn a few words of the language *before you show up*.
There’s tons of free apps now like Duolingo and Memrise that can help you learn a few much needed phrases before you show up to your travel destination. At least learn “thank you”! The locals will smile at your attempt.

4. You’ll research the history.
The history of your travel destination could have shaped the region and say a lot about the mannerisms of the people who live there. Through your research you can even find out what you want to do while you’re there. Is their history all about tequila? Then you better try it all! What up Mexico.

5. You’ll try the local cuisine.

Go out of your comfort zone and try some escargot in France or some hangikjöt in Iceland. Or don’t! It’s your trip, but you could find something you really like. You gain new experiences even if you just order a small traditional side dish to your otherwise completely American entree.

So forget the whole “get fit gym” resolution! You’ll get your butt in shape when you’re running to catch your flight. Because let’s face it, despite your own resolutions, you’ll still be running late.
